Computers are accessories that are complex and consist of different interconnected components. While some components of the computer plugged directly into its motherboard, some are linked to the computer by the use of different kind of cables. Such devices and components could include mice, hard drives, cameras, internet cables among others.

There exist a lot of different types of cables in the computer market.

Various types of cables and how they are different

  1. High definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI)

Unlike other kinds of cables found in this field, HDMI cables send both audio and video signals to any motherboard from any given sources. These signals are always digital-designed. Thus the cable must be connected to new technology devices. The HDMI cables come in different types.

  • Type A cables

These are the most used and known HDMI cables in this market. They are compatible with DVI-D connections.

  • Type B cables

They are bigger than the type A cables. They are used in Dual-link DVI-D connections.

  • Type C cables

They are mostly used on portable devices, which could include digital cameras and camcorders.

  • Type D cables

This is also a 19 pins cable that is similar to the micro-USB cord.

  1. Category 6 cables

These types of cables are mostly known as CAT 6. They are the latest standardized twisted cables used for Ethernet among other physical network layers. This cable is backward attuned with category 5e as well as category three cables. Category 6 has more stringent specifications than other types of cables.

  1. Category 5 cables

They are commonly known as Cat 5. These kinds of devices can be used to transmit video as well as audio signal. They are also useful in Ethernet over the twisted pairs. The category 5 has been improved for the last few years and thus introducing new and unique specification in this industry.

  1. Fiber optics

Apart from the metal were used to transmit electrical signals, the fiber optic is favored for transmitting signals by the use of glass strands as well as pulses of light. They are bendable and are useful for wide area network installations. This could be in residential premises or even in business buildings.

The two major kind of optic fiber includes single mode cables and multimode cables. The single mode cables are used for long distance telecommunication networks. The multi mode cables are used for domestic systems because of low costs.

  1. Video cables

Video cables are known to be used in transferring video content from computers to TV screens. They also transfer output visual information. Video Graphics Array is an example of the standard video cables used for this work. Others include DVI as well as S-video cables.

The industry contains endless varieties of cables which are used in the different field. Understanding them well could require an individual to work in close collaboration with the wiring or computer technicians to know how the cables perform differently in their particular connection tasks. The market also has fabulous accessories which are replacing the actual cables for the connections.
